Spica by digital_drew on Flickr.Via Flickr:
The Spica system consists of two very hot bluish (nearly blue-violet) stars in a close 4 day orbit, each tidally distorted. Due to the relatively young age of the system, the two stars’ rotation rates are not synchronized. The more massive and hotter member has over ten solar masses and is evolving off the main sequence as a blue giant, while the smaller component has approximately seven masses and is still on the main sequence.
